Diet's - You name it - I've tried it.

I haven't always had a good relationship with food, in fact I still struggle sometimes. Food can mean more than just fueling your body for a lot of people. It could be emotional, cultural and social. Did you know that when we eat when we eat high sugar/ high carbohydrate foods it leads to an increase in chemicals that help our brain release more serotonin, temporarily elevating our mood and making us feel better emotionally. It makes us happy and warm inside but leads to bad habits and more cravings of those type of foods.

My first diet was when I was 16, i was hooked on sodas so I cut back till I eventually kicked the habit. My background is Turkish which means BBQ's and feasts nearly every weekend. So the next diet was crash diet during the week. I went to a website and would search diets like loos 5kgs in 10 days but then I would feast on the weekends with my family. That didn't work so I’d drink slimming teas, take diet pills to suppress my appetite. I was starving and when the weekend came around I would have a movie night at home and get crisps and chocolates and candy and spread out!! It was a vicious cycle that went on for years! The Diets usually happened before a special occasion like a wedding or a trip. In the end I ended up just loosing all control. I remember a time in my life where I just gave up and stopped caring. This is right before i was inspired and had the right support and knowledge to make a positive change.

The first change started by tracking my meals, which led to me finding out how much fuel I needed to function healthy. I learned about healing the body with whole foods and looking at food as thy medicine (Hippocrates. It wasn't about the weight anymore it was about developing a healthy relationship with food and feeling good.

I thought I was eating healthy for a while I was having green juices, smoothies salads and doing so much cardio for nearly 2 years. I lost a bit of the bloating and a little bit of weight but then I got stuck. When I finally resorted to a trainer and that trainer actually took the time to talk to me about nutrition I was mind-blown. I had no idea that I was having so much of the healthy food and so much sugar! Which explained my skin problems at the time.

Diet's can be so overwhelming and thats why I refuse to diet ever again. I create challenges for myself and after each challenge I have a better relationship with food. Forming a healthy relationship with food takes conscious effort, but it is possible. This relationship includes relaxed eating, choosing preferences over positions, and practicing balance and flexibility in your eating.

If you are stuck confused, or just want to chat about your experiences with food, send me an email, text- whatever works- Id be happy to help and it won’t cost you anything at all!
